Professional Development School
Madison School was selected by NCATE (National Council for the
Accreditation of Teacher Education) as one of only twenty partnerships nationally to
participate in a Professional Development School project. In partnership with West Liberty
State College, the school is providing extensive,site-based training for preservice
educators. This project is part of a 3 year plan to field-test standards developed by
NCATE that will define a model for professional development schools. The goal of a PDS is
to provide outstanding field-based experiences to teachers in training at the college
level. In September,1998, the first group of participants began their training at Madison
Elementary School.
