Freshmen Guidance Information
Be sure that you understand what is required for graduation
Review your student handbook to make sure you understand the attendance and discipline policies.
School Activities - get involved!!! These activities are an important asset for your future references. If involved try to attain an elected office.
Select a Career Cluster
Take advantage of the college and career computer software packages available in the Guidance Office
Check catalogs in the Career/Guidance Corner in the Media Center and sign out those from schools which interest you. Pay particular attention to the admission requirements.
Check the bulletin board in the counseling office and daily announcements for visits by college and technical school representatives.

Sophomore Guidance Information

Take the PSAT in October as a practice for the SAT. Sign up in the Guidance Office.

Junior Guidance Information
Review your records to ensure that you have enough credits to graduate. Twenty-four (24) credits are needed. See your counselor.
Make sure that summer school and/or community service credits are recorded and all incomplete are made up.
To meet college and university entrance requirements, you must take either the ACT or the SAT. It is recommended that you take one of these during the spring of your junior year. Check theACT and the SAT tests dates in the Guidance Office.
You are able to take the SAT examination here at Wheeling Park High School by using the test center code 49-152.

The ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) is given in December for Juniors and Seniors. We recommend this test be taken by students seeking information on individual aptitude and career possibilities.

Senior Guidance Information
Review your records to ensure that you have enough credits to graduate. Twenty-four (24) credits are needed. See your counselor.
Make sure that summer school and/or community service credits are recorded and all incomplete are made up.
Pick up college or technical school applications, complete, and submit with application fees and postage to the Guidance Office at least ten (10) days prior to any deadline. Do not mail applications on your own!!!!

Register to take the SAT and/or the ACT. NOTE: Do NOT wait until after you have taken these tests to submit college applicatons.

If you do not have a social security number, contact the social security office at (304) 233-7710 to acquire one.

Pick up financial aid forms in the guidance department. Attend financial aid night with your parents. Financial aid is based on a first come, first serve basis.
All boys must register for the selective service soon after their 18th birthday in the Guidance Office or at Wheeling Post Office
