National Schools of Excellence

Through the combined efforts of principals, teachers, central office administrators, service personnel, and parents, Ohio County Schools has been richly rewarded with national and state recognition.

Wheeling Park High School, three middle schools (Bridge Street Middle, Triadelphia Middle, and Wheeling Middle), and two elementary schools (Elm Grove and Madison) are recognized nationally as Schools of Excellence.  Thirteen schools, including those above, have been awarded "excellence" status by the West Virginia Department of Education.

Selection is based on how schools meet local, state and national goals.  An important consideration is the school's success in furthering the intellectual, social, physical and moral growth of its students.   Schools chosen for excellence must provide evidence of high test scores and high quality instruction.  The school must demonstrate that students are developing a solid foundation of skills in reading, writing, and mathematics, as well as reasoning and problem solving.

Ohio County Schools has earned the unique distinction of being the first county public school system in West Virginia to have all its schools recognized as West Virginia Schools of Excellence.
